Sunday 13th June - bike ***** - Trimley Marshes and home via Levington Marina – sunny and hot.

Another sunny, hot and still day here in Felixstowe and being a weekend and hating crowds the seafront is best avoided! So, with breakfast packed in the rucksack we headed off on our bikes around 6.30 in search of some peace and quiet and certainly found it, hardly seeing a soul for the 5 hours we were out:) We did the same route down to Trimley marshes stopping to chat to an old friend walking her dog who we haven’t seen for ages! Then Weetabix in the first high bird hide watching the wild life, spotting the marsh harriers, herons fighting, geese and a hare with most of the cows laying down as getting warm. Then along the River Orwell path with the reserve in full bloom and the tide very low to the winter flood hide. It was pretty hot in the hide but there were loads of avocets, maybe 30 in all with lapwings, red shanks, gulls with the marsh harrier overhead. Carrying on around the creek to Levington cliff past Loompit lake full of geese with a family of swans. There is now a new fence stoping you getting into the marina bbq area so we continued on, bumping into windsurfing mate Swainy who was working, taking a group out on a yacht. The red saild squibs were just leaving the marina to race in very light airs, really struggling to make against the tide. Our bench at the windsurf launch area was taken so we sat on the concrete wall by the marina entrance nearly standing on three oyster catcher eggs, the pair then keep a beady red eye on us while we had our cuppa from the flask! Back the usual way across the fields and through the tree seeing a yellow hammer and only one deer. So another amazing bike ride enjoying super Suffolk:)
